The transition from fall to winter always takes place in December. This date is not however fixed because it depends on that of the winter solstice which takes place according to the years on December 20, 21, 22 or 23.
This year the Winter will start on Thursday December 21, 2023 (day of the winter solstice) and will end on Tuesday March 19, 2024 with the spring equinox.

Be careful the date of the beginning of winter is not fixed and can vary from one year to another. Although it falls most often on December 21 or 22, it happens exceptionally that winter begins on December 20 or 23.

If the astronomical or calendrical seasons begin with the equinoxes (spring and autumn) and solstices (summer and winter), in meteorology, they begin earlier and correspond to periods of three full months.
In the northern hemisphere the dates of the meteorological Winter extend from December 1 to February 28 (29 in case of a leap year) : month of December, January and March.
For the year 2023 the meteorological winter will begin on Friday, December 1, 2023 and will end on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
